The president of The United States, Donald Trump, has tested positive for coronavirus. His wife, Melania Trump is also tested positive for Covid-19 and it seems that both of them are now in self-isolation. According to the president’s physician, Dr. Sean Conley, Mr. Trump and his wife were both feeling well on Thursday.
Dr. Conley stated:
“Rest assured, I expect the president to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering, and I will keep you updated on any future developments.”
The president of The United States is 74 years old and is in a high-risk group. According to information released by America’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), people who are aged between 64 and 74 and infected with coronavirus, are in much greater danger that those who are in their 20s or 30s. Senior citizens are five times more likely to need general care than those in their 20s and even ninety times more likely to die.
As soon as he found out that he was affected by Covid-19, Mr. Trump addressed the public via Twitter:
“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”
Before the president and the first lady contacted Covid-19, Hope Hicks, Mr. Trump’s associate, was tested positive too. That event motivated President Donald Trump to take a test.
Mr. Joe Biden, a presidential candidate, could also be tested soon. He was relatively close to Mr. Trump during the presidential debate and could be at risk.
This course of events may affect the political scene too, it seems that, because of the president’s current state, campaign rallies won’t be realized. Also, the next presidential debate is in question.
Covid-19 has devastated the United States by infecting more than 7.2 million Americans. Until now, more than 200,000 of those who were infected died.
