Liberal Democrats Slams Biden Over Support For Israel

On Wednesday, liberal Democrats slammed U.S. President Joe Biden over his continued support for Israel. 

The remarks came after Biden criticized the attacks by Palestinian militant group Hamas. In a statement, the White House said that the U.S. President “condemned the rocket attacks by Hamas and other terrorist groups, including against Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.” 

The White House also shared Biden’s support for Israel. He also believes that Israel has a legitimate reason to defend itself and protect its people. However, the President’s statement did not sit well among liberal Democrats. In fact, they continued to put pressure on the administration to support Palestine. 

Liberal Democrats Pressures Biden Admin

In a social media post, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez believes that Biden failed to provide the real context behind the attack. She also accuses Biden of “dehumanizing” Palestinians.

In addition, the Democrat believes that Biden chooses to turn a blind eye on the human rights violations committed by the Israeli government. 

The Democrat argues that by supporting Israel, Biden only tolerates the idea that Palestine started the “cycle of violence.”‘

Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib also slams Biden for supporting what she believes as an “apartheid system.” The Democrat, who serves as the first Palestinian American woman elected in Congress, accuses the administration of promoting “racism”’.

In addition, Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar also responds to Biden’s statements. Just like AOC, Omar claims that the President failed to prioritize human rights. “You’re siding with an oppressive occupation,” the Democrat declareds. 

It is not the first time that Omar has expressed her anti-Semitic views. In 2019, Omar received a backlash for promoting a false belief against American jews.

In another event in Washington, Omar claims that everything she says about Israel becomes anti-semitic simply because she is a Muslim. She argues that this prevents her from discussing the real issue between Israel and Palestine. 

IDF Denies Accusations

However, the Israel Defense Forces denies accusations that they are targeting civilians. On the contrary, the IDF reiterates that the airstrikes were only a defense against Hamas. The Israeli Military claims that before each attack, they provide warning to residents and encourage them to evacuate. 

In a media interview, IDF Chief of the General Staff LTG Aviv Kohav confirms that civilian safety remains their topmost priority. “We are defending the citizens of Israel… and we will do everything to protect them.”

Since Monday, Hamas continues to rain down barrage rockets in Israel. Within six days, the militant group fired over 2,300 rockets, 90 percent of which were intercepted by the Iron Dome. 

Biden Continues To Defend Israel

Despite the increasing pressure from liberal Democrats, the U.S. President stood firm on his support for Israel. Biden believes that the Israeli government had the right to defend itself against the terror group, Hamas. In addition, the President also vows to help rebuild Gaza and provide humanitarian aid.

Moreover, Biden said, “There is no shift in my commitment — the commitment to the security of Israel. Period. No shift, not at all.”
